Green Group

The ride on the bus to the AMC Lodge felt like forever. When we finally arrived, we were split into two groups to play mountain baseball, and some other games. We then were split into smaller groups with our group leaders for our hike on the trail. My group Leader was Max. Our group started walking on a trail that leads to Welton Falls. Next to the trail, there was an old cellar. It was made of large stones and had plants growing in it. Farther up the trail, we stopped for lunch. I had 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a banana. The lunch stop was at a small ledge that had a fallen tree down it. After lunch, we continued walking and we eventually came to a river that we had to cross. Finally, we got to Welton Falls. It was a very pretty area with lots of huge rocks that surrounded the stream. The waterfall flowed through big rocks. When we stopped to sketch the area, two dogs that belonged to other hikers ran up to and around our group. They ran down to the water and were soaking wet. There was a big red and pretty mushroom near the water too. After I finished my sketch, I walked over closer to the stream, and started looking through the small pretty rocks. I lifted one up and found a worm underneath. We were getting ready to leave and head back, so I picked up the worm that I had named Dirt. I brought it back onto the trail but got sick of holding it so I put it back onto the ground.

On the way back we stopped to play three different games. The first game was we stopped and chose a partner and we had to sketch something that they described. For example, if I chose a leaf, I would describe it to my partner and they would have to sketch what they think I'm describing. The next game we played was a bidding game. We started off with a certain amount of “money”and we would have to make a tree using bidding options and the money we had. The next game was where we stood in a line of different spots and we had to rearrange ourselves in a different order. After that we stopped back at the old Cellar and sketched it. We then left on the bus which was a long, boring ride.

The geography theme of day one is region. The theme is region because it focuses on the area of Welton Falls. A region is an area with definable characteristics but not always fixed boundaries. Welton Falls is a large area with defining characteristics like huge rocks, the waterfall, the stream, the trees, etc.. Therefore, Welton Falls is a region.
